Red, White, and Blue!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAWe are rapidly counting the days to the Fourth of July!  I thought it would be fun to make a post of my patriotic birds that are so easy to make.  It is fun to collect tin containers throughout the year at garage sales and thrift store.  My biggest prize was the bunting print tin!  The bunting is so cute with the red striped house shape next to it.

july ideas blog 2 b.JPGCut two wing shapes, one house shape.  Clean the tin pieces with acetone to get all oils off the tin fronts and back.  A squirt of hot glue on the side of each wing will securely hold to the house shape.  Hold firmly until the glue is cool.

Print out a clip art eagle head on heavy card stock. When you cut out the eagle head, be sure to leave enough paper to cover the back of the house shape. Cover the bottom of the eagle head with a liberal amount of hot glue and glue on the back of the house shape.  Cut a wire 13 inches long and twist into a loop.  Secure the wire with some scrap paper at the “neck” of the loop. Cut out a glitter crown from silver glitter paper and attach to the head with hot glue. Glue the silver star in the center of the house shape.  Print out a patriotic saying and attach with glue stick.  Bend the birds feet if you like.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOur fence blew down and my husband wanted to put up new boards, so he cut up about 100 pieces of board that I could make into little plaques.  This one is very basic.  Paint the whole board white.  After it is dry, use painters tape dividing the board in thirds and paint the red and blue.  EASY!  Put the name of your city on top arching over the middle.  Put USA on the bottom and any patriotic decoration fits in the center.  Even a little paper flag would look cute.

Lots of folks dress up in crowns for our small town Fourth of July parade.  I made this sassy one with candles that I got at a garage sale last week. Use a plastic headband, and hot glue colorful papers to it.  Then get out all your patriotic stuff and decorate the crown with what you have.  Feathers add a festive touch!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERASo here is some patriotic inspiration for you!  Use what you have and get in the spirit of the celebration.  You might have fun getting a little red, white and blue paint on your hands!
