I learned a lot from the lady with wild red long curly hair who taught Sunday School. I remember one of the songs she led us in while shaking her head “yes” and making eye contact with all of us wiggling children. “Jesus and Others and You, what a wonderful way to spell JOY. Jesus and others and you, in the life of each girl and each boy, “J” is for Jesus for He has first place, “O” is for others who run in this race, “Y” is for you so whatever you do, put “J” in first place and spell “JOY”!
Politeness is #5 in the “Ten Virtues for the Modern Age” an it dawned on me that the “J-O-Y” song I learned as a kid is my recipe for politeness! Politeness is showing respect for folks whether I think they deserve it or not. Politeness is NOT saying everything I am thinking. I have a personal piece of advice for myself that works to shut me up, “I will NEVER REGRET not saying something mean.”
I used a digital download for Queen Elizabeth’s face and attached 18″ strips of ribbon and tulle to a sturdy wire attached to the Altoid Can Lid.
Then I attached little bronze charms with advice about being polite. “Please and thank you are still magic words.” “If you can’t be kind, be quiet”, “Politeness is a sign of dignity.” “Be polite to ALL.”
I heard a radio preacher the other day as I was driving to the store. He said that folks have traded their “righteousness” for their “rights.” I guess that is why politeness seems to be out of fashion.
This art doll was really fun to make and tomorrow’s post will be the last piece for my Luminary Art Gallery featured artist show!

People have definitely traded righteousness for their “rights” Patty, I am so tired of the lack of common decency that seems so rampant these days…your Queen of Politeness is fabulous!
