I wonder if Peter liked to cook. I was reading 2 Peter 1 the other day and two things got my attention. First was the word “virtue”. Second was a long descriptive list of things a Christian should “add.” I felt as though Peter was checking off a long recipe list of ingredients and I visualized him measuring out a spoonful of this and a spoonful of that.
Here is the scripture 2 Peter 1:5-7:
“For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith virtue; and to virtue, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love.”
WHEW! That’s quite a list. The whimsical side of me see’s Peter words as a spoonfuls of ingredients so I made this mixed media piece to memorialize Peter’s List. These words inspire me. I want to get a firm understanding what each word means, and the word virtue captured my imagination and inspired me to make more Queens!
I just finished making my set of queens as an interpretation of the 10 Virtues for the Modern Age. Now I want to make a 2 Peter 1 set they will be:
Queen of Faith Queen of Goodness
Queen of Knowledge Queen of Self Control
Queen of Perseverance Queens of Mutual Affection
Queen of Godliness Queen of Love
I am really excited to explore 2Peter 1:5-7 and hope we can learn something together!
Beautiful. What a wonderful piece of art!
