For this reason, make every effort to add to your
faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self control; and to self control, perseverance. 2Peter 1:5-6 So we have looked at faith, goodness, knowledge, self control and now we look into perseverance!
hypomonḗ – hypó, “under” and ménō, “remain, endure” properly, remaining under, endurance; steadfastness, especially as God enables the believer to “remain (endure) under” the challenges He allots in life.
I made a decision to follow Jesus when I was 10 years old, that was 56 years ago. It was a life changing experience! I woke up the morning after wondering why I was so happy. Hours later I remembered, “I asked Jesus in my heart last night”. But I didn’t ride off in the sunset on a beautiful white horse. Lordy, there’s been trouble!
Troubles are what we endure and troubles are sure to happen. They are for the testing of our faith. “Consider it pure joy, my brothers, when you encounter trials of many kinds, because you know the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Allow perseverance to finish its work, so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.… James 1: 3-5.
Why????? Because there is more than this life, there is eternal life. Hmmm, eternal life…. most folks imagine fluffy white clouds and a harp, but if I read the Bible correctly the Earth will be center stage for our eternal life.
I smile when I think of Jesus last words “Surely I come quickly.” Well, His quickly isn’t my quickly!! But in the comparison of eternity, what is 2000 years? These days it seems we must be getting close to the end because Bible prophesy is being fulfilled at a jaw dropping pace. Jesus said He was coming back…to planet Earth. He will rule in Jerusalem for 1,000 years. WOW!
When you read the RED WORDS in the New Testament there is the word “Kingdom” mentioned over and over again. Jesus will be King and you and I will be part of His Kingdom. That’s where perseverance fits into the picture. Our faithfulness is going to pay off as the Lord has been preparing us for our future in Jerusalem living with Him. That is reality folks, so take a deep breath and go on persevering because it will be worth it all.
I can hardly imagine Jesus here on Earth!!! In Jerusalem!!! The other day I was thinking about my “new address” and giggled when I had the thought of looking up my new zip code in Jerusalem. I googled “The King David Hotel” in downtown Jerusalem and to my amazement it was 94101. Five numbers very similar to my zip code: 97138.
Last year I got published in Green Craft Magazine published by Stampington & Co. I would be remunerated 30% more if I accepted a gift card redeemable at their online craft shop. That was a no brainer. LOL I ordered these spoon pendants for metal stamping which make great key fobs.
So I stamped “SOMEDAY” AND “94101” on the pendants.
Unless I win the lottery I figure there are no trips in the near future to Jerusalem… but I will PERSEVERE and that will be my new address……SOMEDAY!
