Winner, winner, chicken dinner! No matter how dark the tunnel you might be in, if you are a Christian there is light at the end of that tunnel and you are going to come out victorious: you are a winner!
“Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.” James 1:2-4
I memorized that scripture when I was in elementary school so I could win a cool bracelet. My ten year old self I didn’t have a clue how hard the trials would be!
My heart believed those words and I am amazed that many Christians don’t “get it.” I have had to bite my tongue many times when I was around Christians who lamented loudly “WHY ME?” Duh, read James 1: 2-4!
Trials are a-coming. Hope for a little trial. LOL. It grieves me that folks suffer, but I know there is a secret purpose, a loving purpose and there is a lesson or plan the Father has for every pain and trouble.
Our relationships are so important as we support each other with prayer and learn to overcome together. I often picture God as the gardener and we are the topiary he is making. When it hurts, He is pruning or snipping off what needs to go, so new growth will happen in a different area. When we come to the end and see how beautiful He sees us, we will finally understand.
I admit I didn’t often read the book of Revelations throughout the 50+ years I have been a follower of Christ. In 2014 I read it with open eyes, especially Revelation chapter 2 & 3. Overcoming is mentioned 8 times, with a special reward described for the “OVERCOMER”.
I determined I wanted all those rewards. I figured even if I didn’t think the reward was something I would be interested in, I would WISH I had been interested when it would be too late to earn it. I examined my life and thought of several areas where it was obvious to me that I haven’t overcome. The biggest was my weight which had spiraled up and up. I was defeated, not an overcomer.
My scales show I have been on the overcoming side! Yay! But I examine my life often to take honest inventory because I want to be a winner!
Sometimes our trials are so hard that words like this post seem trite and don’t come close to being a comfort. My words to you are hang on. In the dark times of my life when it seemed so black I remembered when I painted with my acrylics to give depth I often used black. I found this triptych picture on Amazon, it would be nothing without the black accents.
God is good all the time, all the time God is good. The darkness is needed in your painting. Don’t quit, be an overcomer, you will never regret holding on to His hand! You are an OVERCOMER, you are a WINNER!
