Is This on Or Off the Record?

Today is  National Vinyl Record Day and to get into the spirit of things I pulled out one of my treasured vintage red vinyl records for this whimsical collage.  The label says “Tiptoe Through the Tulips” by Tiny Tim and I thought of making an homage to the memories of my childhood record player using some repurposed items.

I hope the Scrabble question will get some attention and draw the viewer in to solve the question and enjoy the whimsy  “will ya….. tiptoe through the tulips with me?”

I wrapped a stainless steel butter knife with strips of washi tape to simulate the arm of the record player and used Aleene’s Tacky Glue to secure it.

The corners are kitchen cabinet hardware and the buttons are from my collection they are attached with Aleene’s also.

Vinyl records are amazing to me.  I have watched documentaries through the years telling how records were invented but I don’t completely understand how you trap the sound on some vinyl or cassette tape either!

Since it is Sunday I was thinking about a spiritual application to National Vinyl Record Day and the thing that pops in my head is God is into recording also.  About 5 years ago it SUNK INTO my head that someday I am going to account for every idle word.

But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment. Matt 12:36

I have heard debates concerning the word “idle.”  I have my own definition for my peace of mind. I can assure you I spoke a great abundance of idle words when I worked in a dental office with 10 women!

Now I work in my little studio by myself so I have cut down on opportunities.  YAY! But it is sobering to think about….standing before the Lord and giving an account because what we say…… is going on the record.   :  )

Have a happy Sunday and make it a day set aside for rest!

  1. I love your recycling of the vinyl and memories. We just saw an artist at a festival who creates some great art work with old vinyls and listened to Brian Wilson live with his band performing Pet Sounds. I have the vinyl so could think about how to use it rather than play it. So scratched! Thanks for inspiring me down memory lane or beach!
