MMMM caramel! I remember Mom making caramel apples… Thanks MOM for the delicious memory! I also have a flashback of cringing at the mess in the sauce pan when she was done. That was before we had a dishwasher and I couldn’t imagine how she would get the rock hard sticky mess out of sauce pan.
These days they have caramel dipping sauces and premade caramel sheets that you plaster on the appple to make an “instant” caramel apple. HUH! Neither of those options come close to the melted old fashioned celephane wrapped Kraft caramels in taste or experience in my opinion.
When I saw the caramel melting pot at a garage sale recently for $2.00 I knew I wanted it!
The apple dipper is easy to use, unwrap a bag of Kraft caramels add 1 Tbls of water, nuke for 2 minutes. After a good stir, dip the apple in the caramel, let the excess run off and roll the apple in the toppings. EASY. Plus the cleanup was a breeze.
I didn’t use all my topping ideas, but the sliced almonds, mini chocolate chips and caramel flavored Ghiradelli chips were really fun and tasty.
The internet has bushels of caramel apple ideas! I Googled “Caramel Apple Ideas” and found these fabulous ideas:
