I got this 1950’s dial phone at a garage sale this summer and had so much fun repurposing it into art. I don’t know if it still works…but they made telephones so indestructable back then, I bet it does!

I have a big box of images I save from magazines so it was fun to dig through the pile and decorate the sides.
The theme for this side was “Create the World You Want to See.”
The theme for this side was “Retro Images”
The theme for the back was “Pieces of Yesterday” and the man with the barbell was perfect for that!
I can’t make something without plastering FREE magazine fonts! LOL

I have always liked the lilt of the song Yakety Yak which is the title of this mixed media art piece. The final touch was “Keep Calm and Call Your Sister”.
I was torn between “call your Mom” and “call your sister”. I call my Mom! In fact we talk almost everyday when I go on my daily walk, I treasure our lively conversations which are filled with laughter. However, I couldn’t tell you how many times I have talked with gals at our monthly ArtWalk as they picked up something I made and said “I am getting this for my sister.” Keeping that in mind I opted for “sister”.
It will be fun to see where this little piece of whimsy finds its new place in the world.
Keep calm and call your sister is exactly what my sister and I do all the time! Usually on Skype though. Fun to see the old phone decorated with such whimsy.

I don’t have a sister, but I have some girlfriends that feel like they are a sister.

It probably does – we had ours for years and had to get rid of it, when we got a phone at the table to make it easier for mom to answer the phone without getting up from the chair. The AT&T guy said – “um, I’ve never seen one of these before!” Maybe 10 years ago.
