I was supposed to be working on a mixed media collage but as usual got distracted by inspiration! All I was doing was cleaning off my work table but when I was putting away my scrap pieces from the leather pouch I got at a garage sale (for 50 cents!!!) I thought….”hmmmm, I could make earrings with this!”

The first earring set came together so fast I couldn’t help but make a few more. LOL
When I pulled out my jewelry finding drawer, these silver discs caught my eye and inspired me to dream up something I have never seen before.
The leather pouch I used is similar to a nice leather purse. I can’t tell you how many leather purses I have had through the years. Instead of putting it in the Goodwill pile or trash…think about harvesting the leather for craft projects.
My piece of leather was four inches long and I cut it in half to make the two pieces. Punch a hole in the top (I used an awl) and use sharp scissors to fringe the bottom. Cut the chain into the length you like and pick out a jewelry finding to add interest to the assemblage.
Use a jump ring to gather all the pieces and add a fish hook making sure the earrings are facing in the direction you want them to show.

LEAF EARRINGS: I cut two leaf shapes and used a brown permanent marker to color the back leaf. Fringe the edges of the leaves. Gold chain with little beads add interest.
#2 FRINGED LEATHER EARRINGS: Repeat the process of the first set of earrings but add small beads to the chain bottoms.
Now it’s back to work on collages for me. teehee!
Very cool pieces!
