Since I have already sold “sushi” themed mixed media pieces recently, I was on the lookout for fish ephemera to make another.
I had some leftover fish “icecubes” from another project. I stuck the fish with a needle and squirted out the water.
I got this gallery wrapped canvas piece of art at Goodwill for $1.99. It is fun to reuse the canvas and give it a new life.
I got the chopsticks at a garage sale and used paint pens to give the ice cube fish a makeover.
I think Cermacoat paint is the best…it covered the graphic on the canvas in one coat! Three colors of complimentary paint give the water some dimension and interest. After the paint was dry, I used hot glue to attach the fish and drew some water ripples with a gold felt pen.
Since I can’t leave well enough alone, I added my signature Ranger Stickles swirls and made a glittery border around each Scrabble piece! I have one more set of chopsticks so if this sells, I can make one more sushi for someone to decorate their kitchen or diningroom!
It’s so fun to make something that folks want to hang in their home!
