I made a flat lay greeting card from a scripture doll from the blog tutorial on Wednesday. I love the scripture, Romans 12:12:
“Be joyful in Hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.”
In my opinion, the verse is pretty self explanatory but I had the idea to dig a little deeper into the first phrase…”Be joyful in hope.”
My hope is not contingent on circumstances because I trust Jesus. A healthy dose of hope helps us be overcomers!
I like to look into Bible commentaries sometimes to get a perspective from Bible scholars in the past. I found this quote concerning HOPE from Alexander Maclaren at Bible Hub.
“And if there be that burning of the light under the water, like ‘Greek fire,’ as it was called, which many waters could not quench”
I had never heard of Greek Fire and so I Googled it and discovered the Greeks fought a battle in the 8th century and won the battle with a concoction of sulfur, oil and resin which they shot from tubes on to the ships. Even when the Greek Fire fell on the water, it was not extinguished.
It dawned on me that the hope that burns in me isn’t extinguished because I know with all my heart that there is a perfectly good reason for any problem that arises.
The mental picture of Greek Fire makes my hope seem even more powerful because hope is like a weapon against anything that feels like a battle in my life!
