Usually I have to scrounge for items to repurpose at garage sales or thrift stores. I got the supplies for three new repurposing ideas from an accident in my studio!
I had purchased this clock at a garage sale a few years ago because the clock was so cute and it had personality I thought my studio needed. It fell from it’s home on the top shelf and had a 6 foot fall then the clock hands flew off!
I couldn’t figure how to get the clear dome cover off to repair the clock hands….until after I had thrown the clock works away a few days earlier. When I finally decided to repurpose the clock and I didn’t care if I chipped the dome and it came off easily with an awl (so I could have repaired the hands if I had been braver!) All said, I had three pieces to use in repurposing projects.
When I Googled “Song of the Sea” I found an actual song with that title so that became my theme. I made gold lame` cord strands to hang in the sky and used hot glue to attach stars. Next a gold glittery “comet”, a paper mermaid with teal moss supporting her was attached with hot glue. I cut out a clip art ship and finally, used gold gel pen to write the first stanza of “Song of the Sea.”
The mermaid assemblage stands about 14″ tall, perfect for a mantle or bookshelf.
Here’s a glimpse of the other projects the broken clock inspired.
